01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Tucked into the drinking alleyways by the west exit of Kita-Senju Station, Mamimumemo sits at the top of a flight of stairs marked by a red door. The izakaya pairs wallet-friendly prices with a quirky lineup of small plates and drinks. On the 2 floor, counter stools and table seating offer a relaxed setting that works just as well for someone dropping in solo.
Thoughtfully Crafted Small Plates and Snacks
The dishes written on daily hanging slips and whiteboards look simple at first glance, but thoughtful touches run throughout. Sticky rice shumai, steamed after being coated in glutinous rice instead of a typical dumpling wrapper, is well known among diners for its pleasantly chewy texture. Meat options that complement a drink are well represented, from flavour-packed house-made sausage to tender tongue sashimi cooked at low temperatures. Palate-cleansing snacks such as cucumber with spicy miso (karamiso Q) and Japanese mountain yam with wasabi add variety, giving visitors plenty of room to mix and match.
Matcha Highs and an Inventive Drinks List
Beyond staples like large bottles of Sapporo Red Star and classic highballs, the mixer menu has its own distinct personality. For the Furufure Matcha, a cap is twisted to drop fresh green tea powder directly into the bottle before shaking. It yields an intense matcha flavour, and regulars frequently top it up with extra servings of shochu as they drink. The broader lineup includes coffee soy milk highs, unsweetened black tea highs, and Baisu sours, offering plenty of options depending on your mood.
From the Counter to Upstairs Karaoke
While the 2 floor counter is geared toward chatting with the owner over dinner, the 3 floor houses a private karaoke space. The setup adapts naturally to the occasion, whether you are unwinding quietly with a drink on your own or settling in for an evening of singing with friends.
